Abstract
The East Chinese Continental Seas (ECCS) is a primary sink of sediments for Chinese rivers. These sediments bear abundant geological stories, and environmental magnetism, as an efficient and accurate research method, has its unique advantages in revealing these stories. By the environmental magnetism studies on sediment of ECCS, the distribution pattern of magnetic characteristics has so far been well recognized. And as an effective tool, environmental magnetism is of great indicative significance to tracing sedimentary provenance. In addition, some achievements in sedimentary redox environment reestablishment are also accomplished. Furthermore, environmental magnetism is also an indicator of heavy metals pollution and a basic tool for establishment of magnetostratigraphy and paleoclimate change, and has achieved great success. Thus, as a widely accepted geological research method, environmental magnetism is a significant supplement to traditional methods, and will provide new thoughts for future researches.
