Abstract
The Zagros folded belt is a peripheral foreland basin, which origined from the collision between the Arabian plate and Eurasian plate. The imbricated thrust zone, high folded zone, simply folded zone and foredeep are the four elements in the Zagros folded belt. There are some differences between the Zagros folded belt and the general foreland basin. The deformation in the imbricated thrust and high folded zone is strong, but smooth in simply folded and foredeep zones. Tectonic stress, strike slip and decollement are the influential factors in the Zagros folded belt. Traps are affected by the different tectonic mode. Research found that the oil and gas is easy to accumulate in the zone between simply folded and foredeep zone. Some analysis is done by this paper to summarize the geological characteristics of the Zagros folded belt.
