Abstract:
High resolution shallow seismic profiles were interpreted in this paper for establishing the stratigraphic sequence of the North Yellow Sea. Nine stratigraphic units or sub-units (SU
11, SU
12, SU
13, SU
2, SU
3, SU
41, SU
42, SU
43, SU
5) were recognized based on the seismic data and some cores collected from this region. Results suggest that the stratigraphic units established upon shallow seismics are correlative with the core records obtained from previous studies. There occur three "transgression-regression" cycles. The stratigraphic units of SU
1,SU
3, SU
5 were respectively corresponding to the transgressive deposits formed in the marine isotope stage 1, marine isotope stage 3, and marine isotope stage 5, while the stratigraphic units of SU
2,SU
4 corresponding to the regressive deposits formed during the marine isotope stage 2 and marine isotope stage 4.
